Oz Kids Writer is proud to be presenting a complimentary picture book manuscript assessment to the winner of this year's Sutherland Shire Writers' Festival Picture Book Manuscript Competition. Head on down to the festival this Sunday to hear some great speakers and see the winner receive their prize.
For those of you who love or write Middle Grade fiction, this is a gem of a book that I discovered this week. If it gets the attention it deserves this is destined to become a classic.

I laughed so loudly at the dinner table (I couldn't put it down) that my 12 year old daughter raised her eyebrows and said, 'Really? Really Mum? It's that funny?' in that condescending way that only soon to be teenagers can.

But it was that funny, and sad, and comforting, and true.

What a wonderful surpresent (definition in the book) this was. I loved it! My new favourite author.
And the best part ...

She has two other books!

I'm off to the bookstore. See you later : )

The Sutherland Shire Writers' Festival are giving away a copy of the darkly romantic YA novel Fallen by Lauren Kate. To be in the running simply Like their Facebook page. When they reach 50 Likes they'll draw out a winner. Good Luck!

I am delighted to announce that I have had a children's fantasy series accepted by Penguin Books Australia. Keep an eye out for it in 2014.

Here's a piece that was in The Sydney Morning Herald last Saturday that mentions my work as a teacher-librarian and writing teacher and the events we're organising at my local school for The National Year of Reading   : )

I attended An Awfully Big Blog Adventure's first online writers' festival last weekend. What a great idea! With interviews, blog posts and lots of giveaways from a varied group of UK children's authors, there was plenty to see (or read about). And even though the festival is over, the posts are all still there and many of the competitions are running until 20th July so why not check it out!

The new website for the Sutherland Shire Writers' Festival is now up and running. This is a great little grassroots festival that really focuses on the nitty gritty of writing theory for budding authors who want to improve their skills.

There are some great speakers lined up this year and a Pitch Your Manuscript Competition with a $100 prize. Follow the link to find out more.
